D.U.C.K.S.: Resurrection

Diablo sat in his huge red chair looking at his viewscreen. The dark command chamber was lit by the flickering light from the viewscreen. Dragounus was once again leaning on the wall of his older brother's command chamber.
"Hmm." Diablo sneered, curiously. "Something's out of the ordinary."
Dragonous rolled his eyes at his brother. "What is it now?" he growled. "Is another lightpole on the street not working?"
"Shut up, you!" Diablo shouted. "There's something wrong at the Pond."
Dragonous kicked himself off of the wall and walked over to his brother's side. He looked at the viewscreen and saw nothing. It was the middle of the night, and the Ducks were sleeping, and the Pond was still. Diablo pressed a button on his chair, and the display showed the insides of the Pond. Nothing was moving, so Diablo continued to scan through the building.
Donovan entered the command chamber in his usual semi-formal getup. He walked over to Diablo's right side and curiously looked towards the display.
"What is it, my Lord?" he asked.
The large lizard scratched his chin. "Yesterday and the day before, there was no activity inside the Pond complex. No movement, no electronic transactions, absolutely nothing."
"And your point is..?" Dragounus snarled.
"A few hours ago there was suddenly movement, and then I scanned for lifeforms. There was still just about the same number of Ducks, but I couldn't find identification for a few of them."
"So what's the problem?" Donovan questioned.
"I can't find Stivz."
Dragonous and Donovan looked at each other confusedly. Why would Diablo be so interested in Stivz.
"Let's take a closer look." Diablo sneered. "I'll scan for his location."
Diablo pressed a few more buttons on his keypad and watched as the computer displayed the different rooms of the Pond. Finally, Diablo found Stivz's location in the hangar.
"There he is." He smiled. "What is he doing though?"
Donovan took a closer look and saw that Stivz was lying under a glass case. He also noticed Wildwing peering over his friend.
"It appears that Stivz has been killed in some way." Donovan said.
"What?!" Dragonous growled. Diablo pressed a few more buttons. The display zoomed in closer. The figure of Stivz was shown with him lying still under the glass with his arms folded over his chest.
"Whoa!" Diablo frowned. "He is dead!"
Donovan looked up at his master. "My Lord, do you know what this means?"
Diablo didn't answer. Instead, he got out of his chair and walked over to the wall. He put his arm on the wall and rested his scaly head on it. Little beads of sweat formed on his brow. "I can't believe it." He said. "After all this frustration, he's finally gone!"
"Yeah!" Dragonous said. "It's a cause for celebration!"
Diablo gave Draggy a swat to the face. "No, you fool!!" he snarled. "An enemy may have fallen. A fine and noble enemy. But, this means that I'll never get the chance to rid that Duck from this planet."
Diablo slumped back down on his chair and tapped his teeth with his claws. Donovan presented himself in front of him. "Why not take this advantage to rid the entire Second Line from this planet?"
Diablo raised an eyebrow. "I'm listening."
Donovan continued. "Their leader is dead. The team is disoriented. Now is the time to attack."
"Maybe not now." Said Diablo. "I am lenient. I will give them a day to mourn."
Dragonous looked at his brother funny. Diablo turned to him.
"Then you and I together will invade the Pond and take down each and every member of the Mighty Ducks."

Wildwing looked closer and closer at the white light emitting from Stivz's ring. The glowing was getting bigger and stronger. The light reflected off of the glass case and lit the entire area inside the case over Stivz's body.
"What in the world-?" Wildwing wondered. He really couldn't make it out, but something was definitely happening.
"I gotta get the others!" he said, and rushed towards the barracks, where the Ducks were sleeping. He accidentally bumped into the DuckCruiser on his way out, and then made it to the doors. He flung the doors open and hurried for the Pond.

Duke was sleeping comfortably when the light of his room suddenly turned on. He squinted and yelled into the air. "Hey! Turn out that light!"
"Get up, Duke!" he heard Wildwing say. "Something's up." Duke's eye flashed open and he reached for his DuckSabre. The blade flashed out and was pointed at the door. "Dragounus is here?" he shouted. "Get Blade! Where's my sister?"
Wildwing jumped back a little and then grabbed Duke by the shirt. "No, Duke." He said. "There's something happening to Stivz's body."
Duke's eye adjusted to the light, finally, and he looked into Wildwing's eyes. "Really?" he asked. "Like what?"
Nosedive was behind Wildwing. "Wing says that Stivz's ring is going wacko!"
Duke stumbled out of bed and stood up. "Then let's go see."
The three Ducks left the room and started to walk down the hallway towards the garage. Just then, Nosedive tripped over Mallory's waistbasket waiting outside her chambers. The crash was loud, and the sound of the basket sliding along the hallway floor woke up the rest of the Mighty Ducks. Mallory was the first to reach her door. When the computer doors flew open, Nosedive was right in the entrance.
"What the heck are you doing, pervert?!" she grilled Dive.
Nosedive could only smile a foolish little grin. Wildwing explained.
"The ring that Stivz wears is putting out some sort of light." He said. "We're going to all check it out."
Tanya appeared in her doorway. "Let me come with you." She said. "This may be a technical matter."
Wing nodded and continued down the hallway. Mallory tied the straps of her robe and followed the group. Grin poked his head out of his chambers and watched as the Ducks entered the doors to the hangar.
"What now?" he wondered. Grin went back into his room to put on a shirt, and then walked down the long hallway towards the hangar.

"Okay, let's try not to wake any more Ducks up, all right?" Wing told his brother. Nosedive shrugged and looked down towards the back of the hangar. He saw the glass case with the body of Stivz inside.
Duke looked cautiously around him. "This feels a little spooky, y'know?" he said.
Mallory gave him a little slap on his back. "Don't say that!" she whispered. "You'll get me scared." Duke smiled and made a little ghost-like noise. Mallory jumped and glared at Duke. When Duke smiled, she grabbed the front end of his hair and turned him to face her.
"I mean it." She growled, baring her teeth.
The Ducks finally mad their way past the Triton and gathered around Stivz's body. Tanya walked around the case, examining everything that might be out of the ordinary.
Wildwing pointed out the ring. "There it is. Can you see the light inside?"
The Mighty Ducks peered inside the glass and looked at the little glow that the ring emitted. It was like a little sun in the middle of a dark universe. The light hypnotized the group, and Wing just stared in awe once again.
"There's nothing I can tell you about his ring." Tanya said.
Wildwing frowned. "There MUST be another explanation."
The Ducks stood there and pondered. They just stared at the light twinkling on Stivz's finger. What did it mean? Why was it there? What were they going to do now?
Inside the Second Line headquarters, Blade walked through the Rec Room and entered the kitchen. She found the refrigerator and opened it up. She pulled out a carton of milk and got a cup from the cabinets. She poured herself a glass and sat down at the bar table, sipping her midnight drink.
As she sipped, she looked at the mask floating on its pedestal, and the white haze that floated above it. She saw the way it spun around, and was curious to see how it could disappear on Stivz's beak whenever he didn't need it. She finished her milk and stood next to the hovering mask, staring into its eyes like Erin did. She also thought that she could see Stivz's eyes inside. But when she closed her own eyes, and opened them again, she lost the image.
Blade suddenly got a feeling to reach for the silver mask, to touch it. As she let her hands travel into the light, she felt a sense of power flow through her. The closer she got to touching the mask, the lighter she felt, the stronger she felt, and more courageous she felt. She was just about to bring the mask away from its holy display when Nylessa entered the Ready Room. Blade quickly withdrew her hands from the light and pretended to just look at the mask.
"Blade, what are you doing up?" Nylessa asked her. "It's 12:30 in the morning."
"I know." Blade answered. "I just can't sleep."
"Me too." Answered Nylessa. "I can't stop thinking about Stivz, and that he's really gone."
"Wildwing was right when he said he was a father to us." Blade said. "I felt a special bond with him when we all came from PuckWorld after the Authority came to power. He brought us here from the slums of the planet, and now we're living like we never dreamed."
"Yeah." Said Nylessa. "I remember then."
The two girls looked at the mask and wondered where Stivz could be now.
"I bet he's watching over us right now." Nylessa said.
"Just like he always did." Added Blade.
As they were about to return to their quarters, they both heard voices coming from the hangar. They curiously walked towards the Second Line's entrance to the hangar and opened the door. They saw the rest of the Mighty Ducks gathered around Stivz's body.
"What's going on down here?" said Blade.
Mallory jumped in shock. She grabbed her chest and breathed heavily. "Geez! Don't ever sneak up on me like that again."
"Blade," Duke said. "Come down here and see this!"
Blade and Nylessa both walked to wear they were and looked into the glass case.
"See, there's a light coming from Stivz's ring." Duke repeated.
Nylessa took a look. "That's odd." She said.
"It is." Said Wildwing. "And we have to look at this again tomorrow morning. Right now we all need to get to bed."
"I'll agree with that." Said Grin, sleepily. "I'm turning in."
The Ducks left the hangar and went to their bunks. The light on the ring still blinked and faded in and out, illuminating the hangar.

Dragounus looked up into the light and saw the sun rising out of the east. "Blasted sun." he said. "Can never get any concentration with that light."
Draggy pressed a button on his console, and the hatch closed to block out the light. The Raptor was being repaired by hunter drones on loan from the Talon. Dragonous could hear the clanging of metal as the drones hammered metal rods into place. They needed a new power source, and Stivz's mask was right for the taking. If only he could get to the Pond undetected by his brother, he could steal the mask, and leave his brother here on Earth.
"Chameleon," he called into his Com. "Come here."
A few minutes later, the scrawny lizard came bounding in to the command chamber of the Raptor. "Yeah boss?" he said.
Dragounus brought the smaller lizard to the viewscreen of the Raptor and showed him the Pond. "You remember breaking into this place right?" he asked Chameleon.
"Yeah! Sure I do." Answered the Chameleon. "We almost downloaded a bunch of missile codes. You want to do it again?"
"Not exactly." Said Draggy. "I want you to break in and steal something for me, since you're so good at it."
"Sure, boss!" he replied. "What is it?"
Dragonous smiled a wicked smile as he glared at the Chameleon. "The silver mask of the poorly departed Stivz."

The Mighty Ducks were all asleep in the morning, resting after their long and incredible journey. Yet, one lonely figure walked slowly and quietly through the halls of the Pond complex and carefully opened the door to the hangar.
She looked all around the underground hangar. She saw the AeroWing hanging upside down on its launching pad. She saw the Second Line's Supervehicles neatly lined up on their turntables. The SilverWing was also pointed towards the large garage doors, as if anticipating an attack, and ready for battle. The female Duck walked even more quietly down the stairs to the floor of the garage. She walked past the Streak, the DuckCruiser, and the Triton. She looked inside the large truck, and saw the scars of the war that it had been in. She peeked in the back of the bed of the truck, and saw a hockey stick blade. As if n instinct, she picked up the curved wood blade and activated it, and the hockey stick shaft appeared on the blade in a flash of light. She observed the stick and inspected it. She smiled at the handicraft, and then continued through the turns of the hangar.
The glowing light of the ring that was on Stivz's body caught her attention. She turned in the direction of the glass case over Stivz's body, and she smiled.
"There you are." She quietly whispered into the dark silence of the hangar. The only sound was the light humming of the power generator at the bottom of the Pond.
She walked up and looked at the body of Stivz. She put her hands on the glass and moved her self to get a closer look at the face of this lifeless being. The bill was a little scratched, and a few bruises on his neck. She also noticed a little scar over his throat from a knife cut.
"This Duck had been through a lot!" she said. The female duck walked over and put herself at the head end of the glass case. She put her hands on the glass directly over Stivz's face and closed her eyes. A very dim and pulsating light shined over the edges of the glass case, and the light got brighter. A gust of flowing wind blew through the hangar, and the light clothes of the female Duck blew up around her. The light in
Stivz's ring suddenly exploded into a bright beacon of light! The light shot out of his ring and through the glass and lit up the hangar. The darkness was chased away by the new light eminating from the glass case. The wind blew stronger, and the light became bigger. There was another low humming noise, but it wasn't from the generator downstairs. The light then filled the entire glass case, and Stivz's body could hardly be seen.
The female Duck then looked up into the sky, and the roof of the Pond suddenly opened up. The hangar platforms then opened up. The morning sun then filled the hangar.
One solitary bright cascade of light shined directly on her and the glass coffin. The female Duck then started to rise, and the case was now completely surrounded in light. The blinding ray of light suddenly disappeared and also the Duck was gone with it. The Pond's roof then closed up and the hangar resumed in its normal position. The glass case remained in its place, and the light all subsided at once.
Wildwing appeared in the doorway of the hangar and looked across the garage. He then walked over to the glass case to check on Stivz's body. As he approached the clear glass casket, he looked at it and then almost fainted. He dropped to his knees next to the Triton, and he then started to cough involuntarily.
He fiddled with his WristCom and called the others.
"Ducks! Get down here. . . now!" he said, still coughing.
A few moments later the rest of the Ducks rushed to see what was the problem. As they also looked at the glass casing, they also were shocked!
"What in the he-" Duke gasped. Nosedive just stood there speechless.
Blade, Nylessa, and Mallory simply fainted.
Stivz was not in the casket.

Stivz's eyes flashed open like thunder clapped inside of his head. He screamed into the air around him, and he coughed violently. He dropped over onto all fours as he yelled some more and coughed even more. He brought his hand to his face and felt rushes of sweat stream off of his beak. He ran his hand back over his head and ran it through his head. He then clutched his chest.
He felt something strange. It was soft, unlike his tense skin. He looked to where his hand was, and he saw that he was wearing the purple Mighty Ducks jersey. The soft pillow-like logo was what he was feeling. Stivz then placed two fingers to his neck. He could not find a pulse.
Stivz stood up and looked around. It was like he was in a fog. He couldn't see anything past seven or eight feet.
Everything was white, and there was a very faint sound in the distance. Stivz listened in closely. It sounded like a choir singing one single continuous tone. It sounded relaxing and heavenly. He was drawn to the music, and was about to take a step forward when he stopped himself.
He called out into the white reaches of his surroundings. "What's going on here?! Where am I?"
There was no answer to his questions, just the constant singing of the voices in the distance. Stivz then decided that he wasn't going to find answers just standing there. He started to walk towards the sound. About a few minutes of walking, he heard the song in another direction. He shrugged and turned to that way.
As he got closer, he heard even more sounds that fit in right with the song. He could no determine words and lyrics, and he could also hear a few rock guitars in the ensemble. The music became louder and more clearly. He then could hear faint beats of drums, and an orchestra, complete with violins and brass, and woodwinds.
The light around him too, was changing. The white haze had a shade of purple near his feet, and the ceiling appeared as a faint shade of neon green. Purple and green? He thought. Did the Ducks dump him off in Dimensional Limbo, and he was caught in the gateway?
He then focused his attention back on the music and walked toward it. He then could see a few figures in the fog. He saw a large golden chair with someone sitting in it, and another figure standing beside it.
He squinted as he came closer, and he could make out the figures. The music was now just at the right volume, and the guitars were in perfect electrical harmony. It sounded like there were a million of them. The sound was nice and soothing, the guitars played both low and high tones. Stivz could feel a sense of power in the music alone. He then turned to the two figures. They were Ducks!
"Congratulations." Said the Duck in the golden chair. "You're journey is completed."
Stivz looked up at the Duck. His eyes were silver, and his long white hair covered his shoulders. His being himself was glowing in a way. Stivz then looked to the other Duck beside the throne. It was the same Duck that brought all the light and took him away from the Pond!
"What am I doing here?" Stivz asked with a little choking way.
"You are Stivz." Said the male Duck. "And I am Silver DoubleNine. I am your guardian into the next life."
Stivz was puzzled. "Next life?"
"Yes." Said DoubleNine. "You were killed in battle, and my pupil Kaladan brought you here so that you could enter the next life in peace."
The female Duck smiled. Stivz looked over at her. She was beautiful and heavenly herself.
"You mean heaven?" Stivz asked.
"Yes, if you want to call it that." Said Silver DoubleNine.
"Are you ready to enter the realm of eternal pleasure and leave the violent life of your past life behind?"
Stivz suddenly remembered. The Second Line! All of his friends, his family, and his entire life at that! How would they get along without him? Would they be safe against Diablo?
"Diablo." Stivz whispered. DoubleNine rolled his eyes.
"You seriously can't be thinking of going back, are you."
Stivz looked up at his guardian with determined eyes. "I have a duty to my friends back on Earth. I have to protect them! You must give me a second chance at life! For my Second Line!!"
DoubleNine scolded Stivz. "What you're asking is something that we just don't give away! What makes you think that you are a worthy candidate for such a reward?"
Stivz became a little bit more serious. His tone deepened a little. "Just read my mind right now and find out what my dedicated duty is, and then you will have your answer."
DoubleNine closed his eyes as Stivz glared up at him. DoubleNine then opened his eyes after a few minutes and looked at his servant.
"Do they really mean your life to you?" he asked.
Stivz cleared his throat. "Yes." He said. "As I recall, I lost my first life protecting them."
"Indeed you did." DoubleNine said.
Stivz then looked down at his feet. "The it's your decision." He said.
DoubleNine looked down at the strong and courageous Duck bowing before him, asking for clemency. He scratched his chin under his beak and his eyes flashed a light of silver.

Dragonous glanced at the viewscreen and watched as a beacon traced the steps of Chameleon as he made his way towards the Pond.
"Soon," he growled. "I will have Stivz's silver mask, and I will be able to power the Raptor and destroy my brother and the Ducks!!"

Chameleon casually walked down the sidewalk near the Pond disguised as a tourist. Clad with a vest and camera, he strolled right up to the doors of the Pond and knocked on them. A janitor walked up to the glass doors within a few moments.
"Sorry, mac." He said. "We're not opening until the day after tomorrow. That's the next game."
The tourist frowned. "I just wanted to take a few pictures of the ice before me and my family leave for home."
The janitor thought about it for a minute and then shrugged. "Sure, why not?"
He took out his keys and fiddled with the door a little. A latch popped open, and the door swung out in front of the chameleon. The Chameleon smiled and stepped into the Pond. He looked over at the janitor, smiling.
"Gee, thanks buddy!" said the Chameleon in his original voice. "You're a swell guy."
The little lizard then gave the janitor a fierce punch in the lower abdomen, and the man went down to his knees. Chameleon then gave him a chop to the back of the neck, and the kind gentleman fell to the floor.
Chameleon then took out the camera he had and took a picture of the man lying on the ground. "Ahh. Memories." He said. "This is indeed a Kodak moment."
The lizard made his way through the entire Pond complex and finally came to the doors of the Second Line's headquarters.
"This must be the place." He said. The doors came open after the lizard pressed a button beside it, and he saw the large Rec. Room of the Second Line. He then noticed a silver object spinning in the air across the room from him. It was the silver mask.
Chameleon looked around and searched for any Ducks in the building. All the Ducks were now downstairs in the hangar trying to figure out what happened with Stivz's body. Chameleon gathered his courage and started on his way toward the mask with the hazy light shining down upon it. As he walked up to the mask, he was almost hypnotized by the light reflecting off of the mask and into his eyes.

"Hurry up and take it, you fool!" yelled Dragonous from the Raptor, watching the little lizard's every move.

He stretched out his arms toward the mask, and was about to snatch it away from the light when he heard a click nearby. He looked behind him and saw Chance staring at him with a puck launcher pointed at him.
"Put your hands to your sides." She ordered him. Chameleon obeyed.
"Now take six steps to your right." Chance said again. Chameleon side-stepped over to his right. Chance moved in closer with the gun to his back.
"Now, I want you to teleport back to the Raptor and tell Dragonous better luck next time."
Chameleon gulped and he fumbled with his teleporter. He was so close, and Dragonous was going to kill him!
The lizard vanished as Chance wiped sweat away from her brow. She had made it her personal duty to protect and guard the mask.

"What are you doing back here??" yelled Dragonos. He swatted Chameleon across the face. Siege came into the command chamber of the Raptor and looked up at his master.
"Lord Dragonous." He said. "Lord Diablo is calling for you."
"Oh great." Whined Draggy. "What does he want now?"
Siege scratched his head. "I think he wanted to talk to us about an attack on the Pond tonight."
Dragonous nodded. "Tell him we will teleport there in a few mintues."
Siege nodded and turned on his heels to go report to Diablo. Dragonous sat back in his scaly chair and rubbed his throbbing head. He turned to Wraith, who was standing in the Dark corner of the chamber.
"Leave it up to my brother to plan an attack at happy hour." He said.
